Office Plant Inspiration for Plant Lovers

MAN LAYING ON OFFICE COUCH SURROUNDED BY OFFICE PLANTS

Houseplants have the ability to improve productivity up to 15% and only 15 minutes of interaction with houseplants reduces stress levels according to Garden Pals.

Whether or not you have a green thumb, there are numerable positives to bringing the outdoors indoors. One way that people increasingly do this is with office plants. You may already consider yourself a "plant parent" at home but the benefits you get from having houseplants can just as easily translate into your office work environment.

The Benefits of Having Plants in the Office

While the benefits of spending time outside are quite well-known, and this doesn't circumvent time in nature, there are real positives to having plants in your office:

  1. Productivity and Creativity Boost - Teams perform better when surrounded by plants.

  2. Stress Reduction - Nature helps us to feel calm. Plants bring nature indoors.

  3. Noise Absorption - They absorb sounds similar to the way trees lining a highway do.

  4. Aesthetics - They just look nice!

All of these things have the potential to make your workspace, whether in office or at home, that much better in a simple way.

As far as aesthetics goes, it's scientific knowledge that just looking nice can have a huge impact on how you work.

Okay, maybe not.

But being able to decorate your space, make it seem less like an office and a little more like your favorite outdoor area, still isn't a bad idea.

If you're ready to bring the green in, take inspiration from some offices that get their inspo from plants.

1. Jungle Paradise

Being able to travel to the jungle may not be possible for you, but why not make your office into a wannabe rainforest?

This jungle style office is for a die-hard plant lover and one who, presumably, has a greener thumb than most.

Add plants to your office desk, line them on the floor, hang them overhead and on the bookcase - full immersion.

If you're in a cubicle, hanging plants may not be possible but plant cubicle wall hangers are!

2. Green on Green

If you want to bring plants into the office because of their mental benefits, it's a plus. It could also be possible that you're just a person who likes the color green.

Doesn't matter if it's a plant, an office chair or greenbacks, the greener the better.

The added color is sure to make the space appear well thought out.

3. The Artist Studio

All office spaces aren't created equal.

For artists and craftsman, having a work table, materials, plus a workstation for administrative tasks is a must.

It doesn't mean that plants have to be left out of the equation.

Being that it's a creative space it's probably easier to incorporate nature. Add a money plant and who knows, maybe it'll bring fortune!

4. Tree Home Office

If you're looking to keep it simple (or pick your own fruit) adding a tree to a corner or beside a desk space is a great option.

Trees add height, color and can be pruned to keep the size minimal. Fiddle leaf figs are what you hear about everywhere, but small lemon trees are another possibility.

For the look of a tree without the maintenance, a tall branch can be clipped and added to a pot to give a similar effect.

5. Cacti for Black Thumbs

If you're a plant killer, it's hard to kill a desert plant (hard not impossible).

Cacti are ready-made latchkey-plants. Another way to add simplicity not only aesthetically but in your routine.

Because they are easier to manage, you get the benefits of a little office nature with a more hands-off approach.

6. Hanging Haven

Give your plants a chance at a bird's eye view of your work.

Macrame hanging planters or a simple clothes line can be used to give your office garden some elevation.

If you're in need of a space-saving solution, it's a good way to get the pots off of the floor and the desk.

Think of it as an indoor canopy.

7. Plant Wall

Tired of staring at a blank wall? Did you know you can DIY your own plant wall?

Shelves placed in collections along a back wall can be used to house greens large and small. Height adjustable shelves and a little forethought will give the option to mix tall standing plants, with long hanging plants or small cacti - and everything in between.

This is the perfect project for giving yourself more work to do when you don’t want to do work.

Here are a few extra tips if you do plan on bringing plants into your office:

  • Make sure they fit with your style. That could mean pot sizes, shapes and colors, or hanging plants vs trees.

  • If you're a beginner start off slow. Don't add a bunch of plants at once if you're not sure how to do anything more than watering.

  • Look for varieties that thrive if you're in a low light environment.

  • Have fun with plants! They are meant to reduce stress and improve productivity so be creative!
